Law is not smoke and mirrors. It is necessarily precise in its terminology, but that does not mean it is not comprehensible by you. The attorney's job is to educate you on the options and terminology, and assist you in making your own decision that fits your situation.
Estate Planning assures you that your desires will be carried out both during your lifetime and after your passing. It includes planning for assistance you may need during your lifetime, as well as provision for your intended beneficiaries.
If you operate a small business, there are times you need help: Review a contract, assist in corporation maintenance, create a new business entity. I can assist with many needs you may have .
Estate Planning: After meeting with you to discuss your circumstances, I draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance health care directives and related documents to fit your needs, and see them through to completion.
Probate: If you need to have a full probate, a spousal set aside, or a Heggstad petition, We can do it.
Conservatorship: If you have need of conservatorship, we can do that as well.
Trust Administration/Beneficiary representation: Are you successor trustee and/or beneficiary of a will or trust and just need to understand your rights, duties and the process? I can help you navigate your rights and obligations.
Business Planning: I can assist with establishing and maintaining corporate entities. I can assist with routine contract review and questions. If I cannot help, I will tell you and I will get you to someone who can!
Contested proceedings: I am no longer taking contested proceedings, whether in the probate court or civil court.
I was with Benton, Orr, Duval & Buckingham for 42 years, doing this same type of work. When the firm decided to cease practice of law for practical reasons in 2020, I started my own firm. I have moved to a new location in Mid-Town Ventura. I have brought with me my years of experience and training.
Do you offer free consultations?
We do not offer free consultations. However, we will meet with you for up to an hour. If we cannot meet your needs and you chose not to retain the firm, you will not be billed for the time. If you do retain our services, you will be billed for that consultation.
How do you bill?
Billing is done on an hourly rate only. At the present time it is $365 per hour, which will be kept at least through the end of 2024. After that it is subject to change.
How much does it cost to establish a full estate plan with trust, will and related documents? This is based upon the time spent at the hourly rate. As a general estimate, it usually runs from $1,700 to $2,500.
